Regenerate Outcomes welcomes regenerative farming pioneer Dr Allen Williams to the UK

Regenerate Outcomes is excited to be welcoming one of the most well known and globally respected figures in soil health to the UK this summer.

Dr Allen Williams, one of the founders of our mentoring partners Understanding Ag alongside Gabe Brown, is taking part in a number of events and farm walks in August.

A sixth generation farmer from South Carolina, Allen is one of the biggest names in the regenerative farming movement, having featured in films including Kiss the Ground, Soil Carbon Cowboys and, most recently, the documentary Roots so Deep.

Together Allen and Gabe founded Understanding Ag and the Soil Health Academy, consulting on over 50 million acres across the world.

Allen aims to help build resilient farms in the face of the multiple environmental, social and economic changes facing the industry.

"Now is the time to implement principles and practices that are going to allow you to create greater resilience,” he says.

“But the good thing is that along the way, in the journey to create resilience, you are also creating heightened productivity and carrying capacity, better yields in your crops, creating better resistance to disease and pests and you're creating far better net profitability.

“It's not just that you're creating resilience against tougher times, you're creating a tonne of benefits that are going to give you an advantage along that journey.”

Meet Allen Williams at Carbon Calling 2024

Regenerate Outcomes is proud to be sponsoring the Carbon Calling regenerative farming conference again this year, which will take place in Cumbria from August 2nd to August 4th.

Carbon Calling

Organised by respected farmers Liz Genever and Nic Renison, Carbon Calling brings together an array of speakers to provide insights and inspiration for farmers who want to develop their systems to be more profitable, environmentally beneficial and improve their own wellbeing.

Allen will be the headline speaker at the conference in a session chaired by Regenerate Outcomes’ Chief Scientific Officer, Matt Jordon. Allan will also run two workshops at the event on Saturday, August 3rd.

Matt will also be running a session during the lunch break on Saturday at Carbon Calling which will cover how Regenerate Outcomes’ mentoring programme can build profitability and resilience by focusing on soil health, as well creating additional income from the sale of carbon credits.

Allen Williams workshop and farm walk

We are delighted to say that Allen is also working with Regenerate Outcomes to lead a farm walk and workshop in August.

On August 2nd he will be joining us at Mindrum Farm, in Northumberland, to explore how farmer Tom Fairfax has been trialling different management techniques to boost soil biology and organic matter in arable and pasture contexts.

A recent Regenerate Outcomes farm walk in Ayrshire

The farm walk will cover:

  • The six Principles of Soil Health and the three Rules of Adaptive Stewardship that drive the four Ecosystem Processes to build more resilient and profitable farms

  • How to improve field observational skills to improve soil health

  • We’ll see different grazing practices on varying pasture types, wheat crops undersown with clover and areas of wood pasture

  • We’ll visit fields that have responded differently to management changes and discuss strategies to maximise positive outcomes

The event will also be a chance to learn how Regenerate Outcomes is working with farmers across the UK to improve soil health.

On August 5th Regenerate Outcomes and Pasture for Life are organising a practical, interactive workshop in the Cotswolds, led by Allen and hosted by Jonty Brunyee and the team at Conygree Farm.

Join us to hear from Allen about using regenerative grazing to accelerate the restoration of soil health and how to apply whole-farm planning and enterprise stacking to make your farm business more profitable and resilient.

Allen will share case studies and field data that show how these approaches can impact your farming system and business, with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.

We will then take a walk around Conygree Farm to see some of these approaches in action and Allen will lead a soil assessment exercise to help you apply them on your own farm.
